Unie Street, Marquard, where friendly farmers can be witnessed

whilst chatting to their fellow farmers and townsfolk alike. 
Marquard is known as a friendly town, and thus tourists experience
unknown hospitality, as it is not uncommon for a total stranger to
Marquard to be greeted by the passengers of vehicles
or pedestrians that pass by.

B & G Slaghuis
Butchery

Tourists that visit Marquard make sure that they do not miss the local butchery, B&G, which was founded 30 years ago by two brothers, Philip & Schalk Strydom.  An initial small start culminated in the expansion of their butchery to the neighbouring towns of Senekal, Clocolan and Ficksburg. 
Most of the produce they sell is provided by Sparta, the large feedlot just outside town.  The butchery also has an abattoir in Marquard, and currently creates job opportunities to more than 40 people. Boerewors is the main attraction at the butchery, a delicacy for which tourists are willing to travel great distances.  The butchery further offers a wealth of processed meats.

• The Group has 50 000 to 65 000 cattle on its farms and feedlot at any given time during the year. • This ensures a constant supply of raw product to its abattoir.
• Approximately 170 000 cattle from both the Group feedlot and external farmers are slaughtered annually at the abattoir in Welkom.
• A large percentage of the beef is sold to wholesalers all over South Africa. These wholesalers receive large consignments of beef transported by refrigerated trucks. • Approximately 30% of the beef production (12 000 tonnes per annum) is deboned and sold as “boxed beef”.
• All offal product is marketed and sold countrywide.

OPPI STOEP Restaurant is exactly what the name says.
It has a large verandah giving an excellent view of the mountain and
the town dam in the direction of Clocolan. The restaurant is well situated
in the main street of Marquard and the atmosphere is fantastic, a must for
everyone who appreciates the peace of the countryside.
Come and enjoy Sandra's A la carte menu with great food and good wine
between Tuesday and Sunday midday.
There is a ladies bar and exquisite paintings by local artist Doret Hofmeyr
adorn the walls and delight the eye.
